The Lucky Draw Gold Rodimus Convoy toy was the prize for several draws in Japan, both via magazines and store prizes. This was only the second time that a Lucky Draw Transformers toy was produced in two variations for a character that was not the leader of either the Cybertrons or Destrons. The other was the Clear and Black versions of Sixshot.

Around the same time that the Gold Rodimus Convoy toy was released, a silver version of the same toy was also given away along with a gold version of the Standard Convoy figure.
