etoysjapan have posted images and information on a Hasbro Hong Kong prize item, a gold chromed Leader Class Optimus Prime toy. The figure, which Hasbro HK have said is limited to 88 pieces worldwide, will have 10 copies of the toy given away at the Hong Kong Animation and Comic Show 2008 to the first ten people to spend HK$3000 or more.

Here's the spiel.

(Revised version)Collected here are pictures of worldwide 88 pieces limited production of the Transformers Movie Voyager Optimus Prime.

Gold plated everything except the tires (of course). Comes with a case and platform with numbers, so nice!

How to get it? Don't you just hear me :

88 pieces Worldwide!!!!

Feel better after shouting. This project is initiated and carried out by Hasbro Hong Kong; According to their information all the Optimus Primes are gifts for certain special occasions (what occasions they refused to tell me). Now the first chance. Hasbro is putting up a booth in the Hong Kong annual Animation and Comic Show 2008. They have 10 pieces available as gift to the first 10 persons who spend HK$3000 or more buying their products.

HK$3000 is about US$390, not a lot but then to make sure you are the first 10, probably you have to queue up in front of the exhibition hall the night before. Of course you can always pay someone to do it, say another US$100 to $200. So this piece worth more than US$500, will you get it? I am not young and foolish enough for overnight lining up any more but certainly do want one..........deadlock.

This is the second Lucky Draw toy to be released outside of Japan, after Hasbro US's chromed coloured Leader Movie Prime toy.

In August 2008, ten gold Transformers Leader Class Optimus Prime figures were given away at the Hong Kong Animation and Comic Show 2008 to the first ten people to spend HK$3000 or more. Since then four have been sold internationally from the same seller for varying prices with two more appearing on auction sites within the last few hours. eToysJapan has listed his fifth one on ebay with a starting price of $3000, whilst a 6th figure appeared on Yahoo! Auctions Hong Kong via seller ieolawse with a starting price of $1,639, the lowest price of this figure so far by $900.

So far numbers 85,86 and 24 have been confirmed. The Yahoo auction one appears to be 69, though it is hard to read. The fifth one on Ebay should be numbered 24 but if you own one of these figures, could you please get in touch with us and let us know which number you have.

This means that there should only be only four others left that were given away at the convention.

We picked up our Gold Transformers Movie Leader Class Optimus Prime in August, having bought him in a private sale. Though the figure was more than we initially wanted to pay, we felt that this could be our only chance to pick him up early. He is the fourth Lucky Draw Transformers Movie toy that we own and the third mould. This currently (September 2008) leaves us requiring only one further Transformers Movie Lucky Draw item from Japan.

The first thing you notice about the figure is that he can not transform. At first we were not sure whether this would turn out to be because the toy was a resin prototype, or whether he had been stuck in one pose. As it turned out, the later was the correct reason. You could probably transform part of the toy, however the feet are moulded / stuck together to help the figure stand.

The toy comes with a very nice display case, a gold Autobot symbol and one of two other freebies that were given out at the event by Hasbro Hon Kong.

When you compare the figure to other gold chrome Lucky Draw toys, as you can see in the images, the shade of gold on this figure is very different. Visually, the shade of the gold used makes the toy look more like a statue to the normal chrome figures, however it does not appear to be of the same quality, and in some cases you can see where it has been applied. There are a few nicks on the chrome that allow you ot see the base colour of the toy, much like the Lucky Draw Voyager class version of the figure. Overall, this is an extremely nice piece, and a worth addition to any fans collection.
